"4 months in Kershaw ward"

About: St Charles Hospital

My father was admitted to Kershaw ward last June - this was a voluntary admission following involvement from the elderly care community mental health.

He was suffering from anxiety and depression.

He stayed for just over 4 months.

The care he received from so many of the staff on the ward was caring and compassionate.

Staff were strict with him so he wasn't allowed to stay in bed all day but encouraged out for meals and to get fresh air to his benefit.

The involvement I had with all the staff with fabulous - they took time to explain processes, to involve me in planning for his discharge and keep me updated on how my father was - both ward staff and the related social services team.

This is a wonderful service doing wonders with limited funding.

(very happy to provide names of staff to the moderator for performance reviews or similar)

Thank you very much for this positive response. It's fantastic to hear of your good experiences of both our staff and our service. We always want our care to be "caring and compassionate", but it always means so much to staff when they hear this kind of praise for doing their jobs. Please do send to me the names of the staff that you wish to pick out on an individual basis. You can email me on seanmooney@nhs.net.
