"Visit to A & E"

About: Royal Bournemouth General Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I had injured myself at home resulting in a nasty cut to my forehead which I had not thought serious enough to attend the A&E dept but eventually attended the following day as the injury would not close. Friendly and helpful reception followed by a short wait to be seen in triage to assess the problem. The waiting time on the display was accurate and I was seen in just over two hours then seen by a very helpful and informative doctor who confirmed via consultation with a senior colleague (at very short notice) that the injury would require stitching. arrangements were made immediately and I was asked to wait during this time. The treatment area needed was busy and the staff made every effort during this time to facilitate the treatment. Eventually a senior member of staff went out off her way to accommodate me and cut short what could have been a considerable wait (estimated at 3+ hrs) by carrying out the procedure in a side treatment room. The treatment was excellent and the doctor was very informative as to what was happening at all times and put me completely at ease. Unfortunately I am sorry to say I didn't make a note of the staff members names but can honestly say that I believe could not have received any better treatment anywhere. Thank you to everyone involved for your great care and consideration, a great department and credit to the RBH. thank you all again.

Dear Wooddust

Sorry to hear you injured your forehead and needed to attend our Emergency Department to have them look at it. However we are pleased to hear you found the experience to be positive, with the staff being friendly and helpful and keeping you well informed throughout the whole process.

It is good to know that the care and diligence from the staff put you at ease and speed you through the treatment process as it sounds like it could have taken much longer given the waiting times.

We will forward your kind comments on to the Matron who I know will share your feedback with the rest of her team.

Hope your healing goes well with little or no scaring, unless of course you need the scar to recount swashbuckling tales of adventure to your grandchildren.

Regards

Patient Experience Team
