"Doin' ok"

About: Leeds General Infirmary

I'm a heart patient and I'm also a trans woman, This week I was an emergency admission to CCU, I spent 12 hours in A&E before going up to the CCU (the long wait I realise is down to under funding rather than any fault of the hospital). I was treated well and was kept involved and informed at all times, the medical and nursing staff were great, however I was misgendered a number of times, mainly by catering and cleaning staff (not all of them) I imagine staff are given diversity training but perhaps it should be given to all - or up dated, I was in a female bay - the food was ok even for a vegetarian,

Thank you so much for leaving your comments regarding the care you received whilst using our services.

I am happy to read that you were treated well and the communication and care you received met your expectations.

I am sincerely very sorry to read that you were misgendered during your stay with us by some staff members. This is unacceptable and I would like to re-assure you that Leeds Teaching Hospitals aim to make sure that equality and diversity are always at the centre of our care.

All staff must attend a Trust Induction prior to commencing work within the Trust and Equality and Diversity Training is covered during this time. We also provide focused trans-equality training provided by members of the Trans community, but, as you can imagine we have a lot of staff to train, and it will take some time for all relevant staff to receive this training

It would be very beneficial for our services and for future patients if you could discuss the matters you have raised further with our Trust’s Patient Advise and Liaison Service (PALS). This would also allow us look into the matters you have raised more thoroughly and may give us some insight into where we can direct our training..

I would ask that you please call our Patient Advise and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0113 206 6261 or alternatively email patientexperience.leedsth@nhs.net if you wish to discuss this further.

With kindest regards

Rosie
