Every Tuesday I go to Roxburghe House, it is my life line.
I was in a very dark place after having been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer that could not be treated. My oncologist suggested I go to Roxburghe House, his secretary made all the arrangements, I felt obliged to go although I was very sceptical.
They have a very structured day of activities: tea and biscuit on arrival; there are tals from different people such as local authors, artists, always very interesting; 40 minutes of gentle exercise followed by 40 minutes of relaxation; lunch (always perfect); craft work or painting in the afternoon with a final cup of tea at 3:00pm. After this we are taken home.
I cannot praise the staff highly enough. It took just a couple of weeks for me to realise how closely but unobtrusively the nurses watched everyone. One nurse homed in on discomfort I was having, she was on the case immediately to get it addressed.
An absolute gem.
