"Special Memories"

I gave birth to my first child just before christmas 2018 at Kings Mill and I couldn't have wished for a better experience. The facilities are modern, clean and spacious and we felt really comfortable in our private birthing room and subsequently the bay on the maternity ward. My labour lasted nearly 48 hours and ended up being fairly complex, needing extra monitoring all the way through and a few days afterwards, but at no point did I or my husband feel scared or worried about what was happening, which we easily could have done. The midwives and doctors were excellent at keeping us informed and keeping me comfortable, especially with pain relief. They really couldn't do enough for us. I ended up seeing the same two pairs of midwives and doctors on two shifts (night and day) as i was there so long and became really comfortable with them. They were so calm, professional and had a genuine care for me, my husband and baby. I'll always remember them fondly as part of one of the most special experiences of our lives. I know their names will be edited out but for the sake of internal feedback these midwives were: four particular midwives. The students especially were lovely and deserve real praise- I'm sure they will qualify with flying colours. There were many other staff around to look after us and they never seemed stressed or appeared understaffed, despite the NHS general problems with staffing, which is a credit to their ability to handle their workload. I was offered the chance to ask questions about what I experienced afterwards which was great for mental health. The paediatric care of my baby on the ward after labour was very thorough and I was given lots of support to help me breast feed, which was so helpful and not at all pressurised. I actually miss my experience at the hospital and will certainly return again should I be lucky enough to have more children. How lucky we are to have such a fantastic facility in our area, I cannot recommend them enough.
