"Rude staff"

About: Darent Valley Hospital

On Saturday 22nd December having suffered chest and jaw pain I was taken to this hospital by ambulance.

The ambulance staff and the nurse who checked me in were great. However care went down hill from here. Having had a second ECG I was told to wait in the waiting area as all seemed fine. This being a relief I was happy to wait. After a while I was called to have blood taken. The person took me to a small cubicle which was littered with used (bands put round your arm to show vein) paper packets that had held needles. I was surprised by this but upset by the attitude of the man taking blood. He had dried blood on his top and kept wiping his forehead on the shoulder of his top left and right leaving damp marks where he was so wet. He was mumbling to himself all the while tying these bands first on one arm then the other. He inserted the needle missed the vein so started trying to find the vein under the skin with the needle. It was painful so asked him to stop, he tutted and again was wiping his head and started chewing gum! After five attempts I asked him to find another member of staff. He called to another man and laughed and muttered in another language, they both looked at me and laughed. This he did who took the blood straight away. after waiting around three hours I was called by a Doctor who after examination told me not enough blood had been taken so need to do it again. He then asked the original man to take the blood. I told him I was not happy with this and the man stated saying "Oh she needs magic needles: and again muttering in another language. The Doctor took the blood sample himself. After another hour I was told by Doctor nothing had been identified and I could leave. I was grateful for the medical care as I was afraid I had had a heart attack. Not a pleasant experience at any time but made worse due to feeling so unwell which after all was why I was at the hospital in the first place.

Dear Nina

Thank you for your feedback and we have shared your comments with the department managers.

It was good to read that apart from this you did receive very good care.

Kind regards
