"Acceptable medically but the above dislike was my..."

About: Orsett Hospital

What I liked

Please note this is in relation to the Eye Clinic at Orsett Hospital which is not on the above list.

The junior doctor asked advice from the consultant who came and examined me and changed the diagnosis. A generally relaxed atmosphere.

What could be improved

The waiting room door was wedged permanently open. This meant that everything that was said in answer to the initial screening questions and eyesight test could be heard by everyone in the waiting room. My wife who was waiting for me verified this. I was asked about personal medical history and the responses to my eyesight test were audible to all. Although I had no problems that might be "embarrassing" I'm sure some might. It beggars belief that this practice is deemed acceptable in a time when patients are screaming out to be treated with dignity and respect and of course expectant of privacy. It costs nothing to close a door!

Although Orsett Hospital is part of Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals, the opthalmology (eye) services provided there are an outreach service from Southend Hospital (which is why you could not find them in the drop-down list). You may therefore want to register your comments on their NHS Choices web page or contact their Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS). We will also alert the latter to your comments, so they can take appropriate action.
