"Happy but"

About: Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre

On arriving at the treatment centre, I was greeted by a lovely receptionist, and was escorted to the in ward. The staff on the ward were lovely and made me feel comfortable. Going down to theatre again the porter was lovely, so was the theatre staff, before and after surgery. I was then taken upstairs back to the ward, where everything was done to make me feel comfortable and relatively pain free. The food in the hospital is very tasty and again all kitchen staff were lovely and polite. Physio was hard but again very polite and not pushy. I really thought this was a brilliant place. Then little things started to show up, maybe because I was getting better, but it was almost impossible to ring out on Mobil, the internet was non excistant, but I will say most of the staff tried their very best to get it working, so no complaint there, also maybe I’m being picky, there was no tv by your bed, but to be honest this wasn’t a big deal. As I said the staff on the ward were all very helpful, kind , jolly and very sincere, that was until new staff came on duty on Sunday. There were two elderly ladies (care assistance) who were very abrupt, and positively rude. They made it clear they wanted you out of the ward. One even told me at 8.30 in the morning, why haven’t you gone home yet, to which I replied I’ve not even been on crutches yet and not been seen by the DR. I asked for some more painkiller, only to be told, they will be given when it’s time. This experience really has put me off this hospital, I have never felt so much in the way as I did then. I just couldn’t wait to get home. I didn’t get their names, as to be honest I really didn’t want to ask them anything. There was 2 of us left in room 2 on that day, I just assumed they wanted us out so there wasn’t too much for them to do. If they don’t have the personality, care and understanding of how patients feel they should not be there, they have turned my review, which would have been, absolutely fantastic and highly recommended, downgraded, which isn’t fair to all the other polite hard working staff on the ward/hospital. I was discharged 13/01/2019

Dear Sue,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback on the Barlborough NHS Choices website.

We appreciate all forms of feedback both positive and negative as this gives us an opportunity to learn and grow.

First of all please accept my apologies for the disappointment you felt in the service provided.

If you would like to email me directly - mandy.miller@careuk.com - with your full name, address and date of birth, I will be pass your file onto our Ward Manager to do a thorough investigation into the sub-standard post-operative care you received whilst staying in our Hospital.

Please be assured, this is now how we like to treat our patients and your comments will be taken very seriously.

I'm sorry you were unable to get a good wifi signal. We are currently experiencing problems throughout the Hospital and this is being looked into by our IT department.

With regard to a lack of TV in your room, here at Barlborough we try to promote an enhanced recovery pathway whereby we encourage patients to get out of bed and mobilise as soon as possible, however, we do have a TV in our communal patients lounge.

I'm glad you did find positive aspects to your experience and we all wish you a speedy and pain free recovery from your surgery. I look forward to hearing from you so that we look into this matter.

With kind regards, Mandy J Miller - PA to Steve Booker, Hospital Director and Marco La Malfa, Medical Director
