"What an amazing job they do all of them"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department University Hospital Hairmyres / Trauma & Orthopaedics (Wards 1 & 5)

(as the patient),

Last week I week I woke up in agony with uncontrollable shaking. I couldn’t move any part of my arms, hands or right leg.

My wife took me to Hairmyers Hospital A&E at around 7am. I was triaged and had bloods taken etc really quickly, within 30 minutes I’d say. The wait to see the A&E staff was a lot longer at around 2 hours. That seemed like an eternity given the pain I was in. However I appreciate it’s a very busy department and there’s not much they could do anyway until they had my tests back so no complaints from me.

From there on in the care was excellent. I was struggling to answer the A&E doctors questions due to pain so apologies if it came like a big baby.

Once I had been assessed it was off to Ward 2 where after a few more hours the doctor came round and assessed me and decided I had to stay so was sent to Ward 10 for the next 5 days. All the staff were excellent but the staff in Ward 10 were brilliant. What an amazing job they do all of them. I don’t know how they do it. Thank you.

Dear Slim

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience. I am so sorry to hear that you were in so much pain and had to wait for some time before seeing a doctor. Although a busy department, it is important for the team to effectively treat and address severe pain as soon as possible.

I am pleased to hear that you did feel that you received excellent care and I will share your comments with the wider teams of A&E, ward 2 and 10. I will ensure your specific comments regarding ward 10 are also shared. I hope that you are recovering well and again thank you for your comments.

Best wishes

Lise
