Last August my daughter became very ill with Anxiety & Depression. She was eventually seen by the Mental Health team, I think Primary Care. Over a period of 3 months she was assessed on four different occasions and at one point deemed as 'high risk' due to suicidal thoughts/tendencies. During this time the community team visited the house once and no other intervention was put in place.
She was eventually seen by a consultant pychiatrist who said that she thought that my daughter might have borderline personality disorder (emotional) and that talking therapy would be required. She was given an appointment in late November for another assessment, but was unable to attend due to ill health related to her anxiety. I cancelled this for her and another appointment for mid December was made. Unfortunately, she was unwell again and unable to attend the appointment, this time due to a very bad fly type illness. I was told that another appointment would be made for her, however, this morning we have received a discharge letter, referring her back to her GP if she still needs support! At no point did anyone say that she would be discharged if she missed these appointments.
I am dumbfounded with this response and entirely dissatisfied with the lack of care that she has received from the Mental Health Service. I do understand that there is a problem when clients do not attend, however, given the very nature of the problem I would have thought that this would be taken into consideration. At the very least she should have been asked to call to make a final appointment or otherwise be discharged. Now she would have to start at the very beginning which she will not do. Being assessed so many times by different people has made her attempt to access Mental Health Services extremely negative.
