"Why give an NHS script when you can force..."

About: Queen Elizabeth I I Hospital (Welwyn Garden City)

I am a UK citizen, however currently live in australia. I came back to UK as a family member was unwell, whilst in UK I ran out of my insulin.

I tried to see a GP however was advised as was after 6pm to call 111. I did this, a doctor told me she’d write me a script but would not do it under the NHS. I was charged £53 for life dependent insulin. When querying this the doctor asked me how much I wanted my medication.

Sad thing is - I’m actually a doctor, if I treated any patient like this, with holding life dependent medication, i’d Be struck off. No wonder people in the UK are dissatisfied with the NHS!

Disgusted and appalled at the service I received. Whatever happened to the Hippocratic oath in this country!!!!!

I pity the person who can’t afford £53

Thank you for getting in touch. We're sorry to hear that you were unhappy, but pleased to hear that you were able to receive the medication you needed. In regards to the price of medication, this is something that is set nationally rather than by individual Trusts and hospitals. We would recommend getting in touch with NHS England directly, who may be in a better position to help and advise you: https://www.england.nhs.uk/contact-us/
