I had my termination at Brighton when I was 10+4 weeks this was an unexpected 3rd pregnancy. My husband and I thought about this a lot and what we wanted to do, however there were risks to my health due to a complicated 1st labour, and age related risks which led us to the decision to terminate.
On the day we waited for ages to be called in. I was hoping to be scanned again as I thought I had had a missed miscarriage, but they thought it was unlikely and so I didn't get one. The nurse listened to my concerns and told me what would happen during the procedure (surgical).
The procedure itself was awful, the doctor speaks so quietly you can't hear her, no one offered to hold my hand especially when I started crying from the pain. You're not told what's happening just that it's nearly done. Once finished you're helped into the recovery room where you are given tea and crisps or biscuits.
Once discharged the nurse was a bit rude because I chose not to have any contraception at the time and kept going on about it being the best time to do it as I'd just had a local down there.
I don't regret my decision as I know why I did it. I just wish that during the whole procedure I'd been treated with the respect that I feel I should have had.
We do feel we need post abortion counselling but cannot come back to bpas. This was not something we wanted to go through ending a life like this but we had to consider the possibility of my life possibly ending in child birth and the impact on our two children. All this said and yet bpas brighton didn't show me any compassion.
