I was admitted to Labour Ward just after 6am and was triaged by a friendly and reassuring student midwife. At the change of shift I was introduced to my new midwife, Nadine, who later delivered my daughter; she was caring, respectful, helpful, reassuring and made me feel like I was the only person that mattered. She listened to me, suggested things to help with the pain and respected every decision I made.
As things progressed I moved to the birthing pool where she supported me and my husband, she was confident during examinations of me as well as the baby’s heart rate. Towards the end of my Labour a senior midwife, Pam, joined us in the room, I felt out of control at times but she reassured me, helped me, and gave me confidence when I didn’t think I could manage any longer. I remember Pam calling my husband the third midwife as he was playing a huge part in getting me through the labour as well as listening and doing what they suggested; this still makes us laugh today! Pam was so supportive towards Nadine, she trusted her examinations and the baby’s observations. Nadine offered her to double check but I remember her saying no I trust your clinical judgement. This was so empowering and really nice to hear. In my opinion Pam showed real leadership skills, guiding and trusting Nadine to deliver my baby safely. I will never forget professionalism, knowledge and kindness both midwifes showed that day.
Just after 1pm our beautiful baby girl was born safely thanks to both these wonderful ladies.
