"A wonderful service from all the staff at NHS24"

About: NHS 24 Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a service user),

Felt terrible about 0430 on New Year's morning with a pain in my chest. Took some Omeprazole waited about 2 hours then took a gaviscon. By 1100 there was no change. Phoned 111. Gave my details to the call handler and then to the nurse. She decided that I required a visit by the paramedics and within 3 minutes they were at my

door. They gave me a full examination and took an ECG which was normal. As they couldn't find any problem they arranged for the on call doctor to visit me which he did  within the hour. He was excellent and again gave me a full examination but couldn't find the cause of my problem. Advised me to take paracetamol for the pain and advised me to call 999 if the pain became any worse. The pain eventually wore off about 2300 and thankfully  hasn't returned.

All in all a wonderful service from all the staff at NHS24 and I can't thank them all enough.

Hi

Thank you so much for sharing your story on Care Opinion. This must have been a worrying experience for you and I am pleased that your pain settled. Not the best way to spend New Year's Day!

The service you describe sounds exemplary, especially on a Public Holiday when services are especially busy. I am pleased you were able to be seen by Healthcare Professionals who put your mind at ease with various examinations which didn't find anything untoward.

It would be good to share your story with the staff members here at NHS 24 who managed your call. I am sure they would be delighted to hear you are doing much better. If you would be kind enough to provide some additional detail, then I could do this. I can be contacted on 0141 337 4582 or by email at patientaffairs@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

I am sure my colleagues within the Ambulance Service and the Out of Hours service will be equally delighted to receive your feedback.

I will however share your experience with senior staff within NHS 24 as an excellent example of great joined up patient care.

Thanks again and I do wish you well.

Take care

Shona

Dear tohopekalaiga,

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback on CareOpinion. I am sorry to read that you have had the need to use our services. It sounds like you had quite a distressing start to the new year. I hope that you are on the road to a full recovery.

I am however, very pleased to read that the impression that you have been left with of our crew and all our partners in the wider NHS was very positive. It is always nice to read when the job is done well.

I hope the rest of your festive period goes better and I wish you all the very best in the year to come.

Kind Regards

Alan
