"Great place - lovely people"

About: North Devon District Hospital

I was brought into A&E by ambulance after suffering a dizzy spell while out surfing on Christmas Day. This was totally debilitating and was like being suddenly blind drunk.

The ambulance crew were great, especially since I was behaving like a drunkard and was sick in the ambulance.

The staff at the hospital were magic, and carried out an ECG, a CAT scan of my head, blood pressures, tests for signs of stroke. The conclusion was I had an inner ear infection. Both the nurses and doctors I saw were brilliant: professional, knowledgeable, friendly and supportive, and cheerfully working through Christmas with the prospect of having to deal with the after effects of Christmas festivities in general as the day went on.

If you have to be ill, this is the place to go!

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us and I am sorry you had cause to attend the Emergency Department (ED) at the North Devon District Hospital (NDDH) on Christmas Day.

I am glad you received a thorough examination and diagnostic tests were carried out and I am pleased the diagnosis was an inner ear infection, albeit unpleasant for you.

This must have been a stressful time for you and it is good to know you were well cared for by the ambulance crew and the nurses and doctors at the NDDH.

I hope you do not experience any further dizzy spells and continue to enjoy surfing in North Devon.

I have forwarded on your comments to the Manager of the ED where they will be gratefully appreciated and shared with staff.

Kind regards

Jayne
