"Birth was not a happy time"

(as a service user),

I was brought in to be induced as I was feeling less movements from my baby, was told everything was fine but they wanted to induce me the next day, so we went in got took to a little waiting room waited 2 hours to even be told what was going on which I understood they where busy.

Fast forward 5 hours (1am) I had been induced and baby was monitored a few times my contractions where getting worse, there where no bed on delivery my mum asked what was going on to be told there are no beds and nothing they can do at that point my mum started to get worried about the baby so asked   them three times to monitor the baby to which the midwife said they know what there doing and everything’s fine (5am)

We finally get a bed on delivery, got round broke my waters she put a monitor on the baby and was not happy with his heart rate, next thing there are doctors in the room a crash team, I had been in the room 20 minutes and went from 3cm to 10cm ready to push, my son was born blue and not breathing he needed mouth to mouth resuscitation, doctors asked how it had happened to which my mum stated he hadn’t been monitored for 4 hours! ! If they would have just put the monitor on in the induction ward maybe the trauma me, my partner, my son and my mum went through wouldn’t have happened, they would have seen he was in trouble, I can not fault his care after the birth but on the induction ward was terrible! !

This was my 3rd baby I had my other two in this hospital and never had a problem but after my experience this time If I was to have another I would not go back there, when I think back to his birth it’s not a happy time I cry every time the first time I seen my son he was blue, I hate to think what would have happened if I was left any longer! !
