"Care recieved"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / General medicine Pilgrim Hospital / General surgery Pilgrim Hospital / X-ray and Scans

(as a service user),

I was referred to A&E from out of hours where after 8 hours it was discovered that my gall bladder was massively inflamed and infected, I was needed surgery however it was found under ct to be to dangerous due to the size and location of my gall bladder.

I was transferred to ward 5A to undergo treatment to reduce the infection by 5 days of intravenous drip and drip fed antibiotics.

I can honestly say the care and treatment from 99% on the ward was exemplary, for me the time of year meant I should have been with family not stuck in hospital, this meant my mental health was quite low and depressed but just about all of the medical team did their best to help me, care in a friendly manner and talk in a way to help me through the stresses of my illness and being stuck in hospital.

For me personally one member of the team did unfortunately let me down in terms of bedside manner, I felt they were rude and un-engaged and got the distinct impression they didn’t want to be at work as I believe they were a little poorly themself, the fact this sits with me more than the great helpful and friendly treatment from everyone else worries me as I didn’t choose to be that poorly or to spend Xmas away from my family. I feel maybe some need to understand they are there help irrespective of if health or time of year and that their actions or lack of can really affect a patient.

But like I said on the whole a great team on 5A at pilgrim hospital, happy, chatty, attentive and above understanding that how thy behave and interact actually helps your patients

Hi Wheats71

Thank you very much for your kind comments.

It is wonderful to hear that you were pleased with the excellent care you received from our team. I will share you comments with the staff.

I'm sorry that the attitude of one of the team members on the ward was not in accordance with the values the Trust expects its staff to display

We hope you are now feeling much better.

Regards

Tracey Fox, Ward Sister 5A
