"Pain in both knees for over a year and no referral"

About: Royal Free Hospital

I have honestly had the worst year of my life due to the NHS. I have been in and out of hospital, weekly, at some points with a pain and fatigue in both legs which renders me incapable of standing over 20 minute periods. My GP literally refused to refer me for an MRI, he was extremely rude and shouted at my mother and I. In the end I took myself to the royal free and got to see a fairly pleasant doctor who gave me the referral I wanted. After an assessment he suggested that I have my whole body scanned as it is very strangest but to my horror, on the day of the scan I was told that only my left knee was to be scanned. Nothing came back in the scan, the speciaialist said that there was some swelling on the knee but it was probably a “a red herring”. He then asserted that rhuemotologists would take control from this point and I would receive a letter from them. Now, I spoke to that department and they had never even heard of me. I find it absolutely astonishing that people who dedicate their lives to this can be so uninterested and quick to palm you off. I have tried my best to smile all the way through I am usually such a happy person but I can feel my mental health rapidly deteriorating, every day is pain, I’m only 28, I can’t run, play football, work, even sit at a desk and write music is impossible because the pain grows through my body. I understand that they are busy but it is they’re job to look after people, I might be left with life changing injuries now and if someone helped me in the beginning it could have been sorted. May I add, I was in and out of Newham on countless occasions , maybe 10 times in the year, the nurse would check me and then tell me that my symptoms weren’t serious enough to see a doctor, I think that’s awful, I am in the worst stage of my life due to this and I am completely patronised by so called professionals
