I have Diabetes and contracted swine flu. I was found at home unconscious in a DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis).
I had been unconscious for 15-20 hours before I was found. I was rushed to A & E and worked on by the medical staff there. I had swine flu, pneumonia, hypothermia, blood poisoning, Liver, lung, kidney and heart failure from what I have been told. As I have memory loss from 3 days before I was found and don't remember being poorly only from being ok at home to then waking up in Critical care and being on machines and not being able to move.
I spent 10 days in a coma and 2 weeks in the Critical care unit. I was then moved to the kidney Dialysis ward for a further 3 weeks.
I want to thank the staff on both wards but especially a male nurse called Neil, who I never actually got to meet but who looked after me for the 1st 2 nights when I was admitted and who gave strength and excellent support to my mum and my dad. And thank you to Ergan who worked on the Kidney ward.
