"Ongoing kidney issue"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Acute assessment unit Forth Valley Royal Hospital / GP Out of Hours

(as the patient),

I was sitting on Xmas day and started to shiver however sweat was dripping off me. I started getting pain in my lower back and passing in the toilet was agony. I knew instantly this was my kidneys again. I phoned NHS 24/7 and was put to the out of hours doctor. I explained this is the 7th time it has happened and I need to go to hospital as iv is the only way it gets better as taken tablets doesn’t work- this doctor didn’t listen and sent me home. Soon I was 100x worse and was struggling to keep anything down ( including water! ) and ended up being sent to a& e. This is where I was assessed and told I was   staying in for treatment and it was the best service iv had. All nurses were so polite and listened to me, they went above and beyond for me.

Dear W3hdx

Many thanks for taking the time to get in touch about your recent experience at Out of Hours. Our staff are committed to providing the best quality care to patients which involves listening to their concerns and working with the patient to give them the best possible outcome.

Every day in the out of hours service we make decisions about treatment that aims to manage people in their home environment because this is considered best for patient care. On occasion this aim is not met and patients do end up in hospital which is clearly what happened here unfortunately.

I would be happy to talk with you about your experience and look at what we could have done differently, and to share this feedback with the staff. If you would like to get in touch, please contact me thorough Pauline Donnelly, 01324 566523 or alternatively you can email, pauline.donnelly1@nhs.net.

I hope you are making a good recovery, I look forward to hearing from you.

Kindest regards

Dr Chris Mair
