"The worst experience of my life"

About: Croydon University Hospital

I don't know about others and don't really care , but my birth with Croydon Maternity was HORROR,. I entered in labour and they didn't have my ANY EPIDURAL, OR GAS, 10 HOURS I BEGGED THE NURSES TO GIVE ME SOMETHING AND THEY DIDN'T WANT. THEY KEPT MY LIKE A COW , DYING FROM PAINS.never come to check my and when I felt that is time to give birth I send my husband to call them and check me up and she said that you are FINE, IS JUST YOUR IMAGINATION , YOU ARE NOT GIVING BIRTH, she checked me , nd Tues what? I was 8 dilated and they rushed me to the labour room

AS she said you will give birth indeed.....

From the beginning I wanted to give birth in the pool, but they said that this is occupied , although I specified this from the beginning of my pregnancy. Horrible. MY baby was born with tight tongue and could not eat, it had to be cut and they decided that is fine, and i lost my breastfeeding because of them, at the end i rem9ved it privately and the Doctor was shocked seeing that a 90% tongue issue was not dealt with, and wondering how the baby could keep eating. From the very beginning of my pregnancy I was disappointed of Croydon midwives , system and EVERYTHING.

WILL NEVER EVER RECOMMEND THIS, actually I WILL SAY TO EVERY PREGNANT WOMAN I SEE, HOW BAD IS CROYDON AND ADVICE TO GIVE BIRTH TO ANOTHER HOSPITAL.

We are very sorry to hear you did not have a positive experience with us during your pregnancy and birth. Pain relief is available 24 hours a day, the various different types of pain relief are dependent on the stage of labour and we are very sorry that this was not effectively communicated to you and that you were in pain. We apologise that the pool was already in use, we understand how disappointing this must have been for you. As you will be aware, Tongue-tie (ankyloglossia) is where the strip of skin connecting the baby's tongue to the floor of their mouth is shorter than usual. Some babies who have tongue-tie don't seem to be bothered by it. In others, it can restrict the tongue's movement, making it harder to breastfeed. Tongue-tie is sometimes diagnosed during a baby's routine newborn check, but it's not always easy to spot. It may not become apparent until your baby has problems feeding. Tongue-tie affects around 4-11% of newborn babies and seeking medical advice is the correct thing to do, we are sorry your baby’s tongue-tie adversely affected breastfeeding. We have trained staff on the postnatal ward who support with feeding and who run breastfeeding clinics. We are very sorry you did not feel better supported. We are concerned by the attitudes you describe, and we would value the chance to discuss this and the other elements of your feedback with you – please do get in touch. You are more than welcome to meet with a member of the senior midwifery team either now or in the future.

Kind regards

Becky Board

Clinical Midwifery Manager
