Underwent a kidney and partial bladder removal following cancer diagnosi. Operation went well until I checked for an appointment date for catheter removal. Rather than the ten days specified by my surgeon I was told I would have a 6 week wait from the op until it could be removed. This was not for any medical reason just that there was no availabilty until then.
The catheter I have fitted is only designed to stay in place a maximum of 24 days or infection and other complications could start to set in.So it would seem to me that I now have to contend with is the risk of bladdrr infection possibly undoing all the good of the operation
and I am expected to have this uncomfortable device in me for no other reason than they cannot do it sooner.
What a shambles and this is a hospital that is under Special Measures so where are the Special Measures here? My only option is for a self funded removal but as the removal includes some treatment for a cancer flush too I am not sure what the outcome and availability of that would be. I have been told that the proceedure is something that is outside of the realms of a district nurses visit.I should add that this was diagnosed as suspected cancer back in June 18 and that the op was eventually carried out in December.
Kind of makes a mockery of the "if you are passing blood" get it early advers that the NHS are currently running on tv doesnt it.
"Ridiculously long wait for catheter removal."
