"An horrendous experience of a hospital thats 40..."

About: Dewsbury & District Hospital

What I liked

The prospect of being discharged or transferred elsewhere.

What could be improved

Ward staff manners, care and respect to elderly pateints, meal times / quality. pastoral care facility. directions within the hospital itself, operations of lifts,

Basically the whole hospital needs overhauling !!

Anything else?

Having an elderly relative in wards 8 & 4 recently, I was digusted at not only the way the nursing staff treated her but also the way others were treated on the ward especially when they didn't have visitors present. Staff were rude, dismissive and bordering on abusive.

Food was regulary served cold, cases of incontinence were regulary left unaddressed for upto 4 hrs, belongings were lost or stolen and staff unhelpful when asked about the situation.

There appears to be no facility to provide patient support thereby releasing the nursing staff to work on their manners and overall approach to patients. . . Remember you joined the proffesion to provide care and support for other human beings !!

Directions within the hospital to different wards are confusing if at all present, taking me upto 20mins to find a ward on my 1st visit, using lifts that can only be described as tempremental antiques.

On a positive note the young doctors I experienced working at the hospital were a credit to their proffession.

However the overall experience of this hospital compared to others I have recently visited in the district is massively dissappointing, it's not a modern recently built hospital like Pontefract or Pinderfields, but its not and shouldn't be about how new things are. . . . It's about people caring about other people properly and professionally......
