I was at St Michael's ENT for day-case surgery (panendoscopy with biopsy) on 3rd December and the care I received was second to none. The nursing staff member leading the unit was highly competent, efficient, friendly, and supportive, and clearly runs a superb team there. She went the extra mile to make sure my every need was met (including organising my follow-up appointment to fit with my personal travel in the following couple of weeks). Everyone seemed to enjoy their job and be genuinely happy to be working there. I met the surgeon and the anaesthetist before going into surgery, to learn about the planned procedure, and everything was explained clearly and in an appropriate language. I had no doubts that I was in competent hands. Also after the procedure, the staff couldn't do enough to make sure I was comfortable, sufficiently "fed and watered", and to explain what to expect in the coming few days. I felt well-informed and treated with dignity and respect throughout. I especially appreciated the telephone call the next day to check all was well with me after the general anaesthetic. This really is the NHS at its best. Other departments/units/hospitals could maybe learn from the obvious success of this one!
"Truly excellent care"
