"It's been worth persevering"

(as the patient),

I joined the practice in late 2008 after years of living with rubbish health. Initially I found them a bit pill happy and it was hard to get anyone to really understand what was going on but eventually Dr Johnstone seemed to get his head around it all. We've had a few battles along the way but now I know what's wrong with me after years of being diagnosed incorrectly and I feel I can actually do lots to help myself. It's about the first time I've ever been excited about the future. My biggest gripe is the lack of time the doctors have and there's a part of me that wants to sit Dr Johnstone down for an hour so I can pick his brain. I find the more I understand the more questions I have.

Thank you for your post.

We are glad you have persevered and that now the future looks exciting.

The practice gives 10 minute appointments and this can often feel too little for many patients. We try to give each patient as much time as they need and it is possible to book double appointments.

Many academics believe appointments should be longer and this could be achieved by increasing the numbers of GPs and therefore reducing list sizes. However this would require a change in NHS policy centrally, but as health is a devolved issue, the Scottish Government could take independent action if so inclined.
