"Good hospital let down by atrocious..."

About: Salford Royal

I was seen in Gastro-enterology on 15th December and told I would have to have endoscopy/colonoscopy. I was sent an appointment for 28th December. I was also sent a whole lot of laxatives to be taken over the two preceding days. I needed to change the date as I am going to visit my children in London, travelling out on 28th and back on30th. I tried to ring the appointments number, but nobody ever answered, so I went to the website and made the request to change. I explained that travel and accommodation were already booked. I also stated that I have a Neurology appointment on 31st December and spelled out that this means the earliest date I could come would be 2nd January. The next day I got a phone call telling me my endoscopy appointment had been rescheduled for 31st December - completely ignoring the facts that 1) I already have a Neurology appointment on that day and 2) even if I were to reschedule the Neurology, there is no way I could be doing the preparation with the laxatives while travelling back from London on public transport.

I would like to know if the people who make appointments actually read what people tell them. I had included plenty of information to help them and they simply ignored it! They really let a good hospital down.

I have chosen Don't know as the department below because the choices you gave me do not match what was on the letter - Colorectal Surgery.

Dear Anonymous

Thank you for taking the time to share with us your recent experience. I can only imagine how frustrating and difficult this must have been for you, please accept my apologies, I would like to assure you that this is not normal practice.

We try hard to provide the highest standard of care that is dignified, compassionate and person centred, however from the experience you have described this has not been the case.

To help me feedback to those involved in your care and to give you some answers, I would appreciate the opportunity to investigate your experience further.

The best way to do that is to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS), on 0161 206 2003 or email them directly on pals@srft.nhs.uk.

We look forward to hearing from you to confirm your appointment details and give you some answers.

Kind regards
