"The worst health care experience in 50 years"

About: London Independent Hospital

What I liked

Nothing at all

What could be improved

Nursing care

Anything else?

Unfortunately at this point I was too weak to shout about or anything, as the local anaesthetic medicine was taking hold of me. I cannot say if the Dr washed their hands after the bloody encounter on his way to see another patient.

After the operation I was transferred to ITU. The dungeon. I was placed on the most horrible uncomfortable bed under a very powerful cold air blowing air conditioning unit. I am allergic to AC. I was told to stay flat to for 3 hours or I may bleed a lot.

I was cold to my bones and very miserable and shivering big time. Around 10.30 I told the new lady nurse that I am allergic to the AC and am very cold. They totally disregarded this. I asked for more blanket. I could not get warm in there. The nurse completely ignored me. I was too weak to demand any more so I asked for additional blankets loud. This time they gave me an additional blanket but very lightly on my top. I was cold, asked for more blanket. The blankets were given to me easier when another nurse arrived and they were wonderful. I think I had 10 blankets on my top but very cold, Shivering and not getting warmer. Could not move from the fear of bleeding.

I was heavily sedated so I could not raise my voice and insist on getting a better bed and may be a warmer place.

I have sent this letter to the hospital authorities and Executive Director has written back to me justifying all as a matter of routine procedure there. They claim that doctors need not to wear gloves when taking blood test. It is not unusual for a nurse and a doctor not being able to do a blood test. That I have not asked firmly at the night to go to another bed which is warmer and not directly under the AC. That the morning nurse has done a good job keeping me under the AC until after the breakfast.

We are disappointed to read this patient's comments, and are sorry that they feel it has been necessary to post these comments twice about their experience. However, at the time of being discharged, the patient had not complained to any member of BMI staff and we were therefore surprised to receive a letter of complaint. However, a full internal investigation took place and the patient was written to with a full explanation. We invited the patient to come into to the hospital and meet the teams involved in his care, but the patient has not responded to this letter, and as yet has not contacted the hospital to arrange a formal meeting. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss this directly with the patient involved.

We would like to reassure you that all staff at the hospital are committed to providing the best quality of patient care possible.
