"Wife's emergency admission"

About: East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust / Emergency ambulance Pilgrim Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a carer),

Tuesday I had to call ambulance for my wife who suffered an injury from falling, paramedics who came were no less than fantastic in every way, and very professional, I went by car to a& e, when I arrived my wife was still on a trolley in waiting area due to high volume of patients, however paramedics had taken the trouble to get my wife a cup of water.

My wife suffers from vascular dementia, when taken into a cubicle she was seen by a male nurse who I would describe as a happy chap and professional. After initial assessment by happy chap my wife was seen by  a doctor who arranged further tests, and explained things to my wife who does not communicate well because of her dementia, during the course of the day two more doctors came to see my wife they also explained things to my wife which is good because so many times in life people tend to talk above people with dementia.

After being transferred to IAU my wife recieved the same excellent care. Please pass on my comments to A& E and IAU. Regarding my wifes  transfer to Johnson hospital by a contracted out service provider I will contact pals. THANKYOU.

Dear Mick - this was such a lovely post to read - thank you so much for taking the time to tell us about your wife's care.

I am so pleased the staff took such good care of her and included and involved her in discussions and explanations - you are so right that sometimes people can talk over people living with dementia.

I have shared this story to ED and to the IAC team and I know they will love to read it too - and I am also sure they will be able to identify who 'happy chappy' is:)

Take care and I hope your wife is doing well.

Wishing you both the best and a happy Christmas.

Jennie

Dear Mick

Thank you for your kind words about your experience with us. I am pleased that the crew made you and your wife feel comfortable and reassured throughout what must have been a stressful time for you.

If you are able, we would appreciate you sharing your comments with our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) team, with as much detail as you can (e.g. date, time and location), so that they might identify the crew who cared for you and share your words with them. You may contact them via telephone on 0333 012 4216 or email emas.pals@nhs.net.

I hope your wife is recovering well.

Best wishes
