My son has a severe skin condition and has been waiting to see a dermatologist for 6 months. the condition is debilitating and has a negative impact on his self esteem.
He rang in the summer to ask when his appointment would be., he was told that all appointments had been cancelled due to the dermatologist being overseas on a family matter. My son asked to be referred to any available dermatologist and was told that this was not possible.
Fast forward to last week, my son had an appointment at a health centre some 5 miles away (apparently Dermatology rent a room there)
I accompanied him to give support, this involved taking time off work to be there for a 9:00 appointment. We arrived at 8:50 and a text was sent to his phone cancelling the appointment. I spoke to staff at the appointment centre and another appointment was made for tomorrow. We both arranged our work to enable us to get there. My son has had another text cancelling his appointment.
What a shambles and I suspect a waste of NHS money. Dermatology will, I assume still have to pay rent for the room at the medical centre despite that fact that they didn't turn up.
