"General day surgery in plane tree centre"

About: Whipps Cross University Hospital

I underwent day surgery in the plane tree care centre at whipps cross hospital and it was for a Pilonidal cyst removal. The surgery was removing a sinus tract. I had the surgery on Monday 22nd October 2018. I went in at approximately 10:15-10:30am and I was back on my ward at approximately 12-1pm. As soon as I left my surgery the aftercare was really poor and non-existent. I had nobody from the surgical team come to see to me explain the aftercare or what had been done even after I requested this. I never even got told whether it was stitches or an open wound. I never got told to come back for a follow up appointment to check the surgery went well. All I was told was to use the loo and then go home and I would be able to go to work the next day. Also bearing in mind my work involves me sitting for 10-12hours a day which I told the whole team prior and I could not even sit due to the location of the surgery. I decided to not go to work and thank god I didn't because I could have been really worse off if not under a life threatening infection. The hospital never told me to clean or change the dressing, they only told me to only see a nurse after 10days, for which my partner was present for evidence of this on my discharge. 8 weeks after surgery and I still have not healed, I still have an open incision wound, and a huge deep hole of a wound. No district nurse or aftercare was provided (I had to take many trips to a&e and the gp to finally get the aftercare the hospital should have given as part of this procedure). The surgery was poor, the aftercare was disgusting. This led to 2 infections, many a&e visits and gp nurse visits. This then led the gp nurse to refer me to an emergency district nurse home visits to pack, clean and dress the wounds daily. This is what should have been done and provided by whipps cross as part of my discharge. Instead they did not care what happened, told me to go to work and not see a nurse, let alone put me forward for a district nurse. I still have not recovered. I have photographic evidence of the wound after 8 weeks (still a large hole, and cut which hasn’t healed). I have tried to contact the whipps cross pals team via phone and email (again no response, which doesn’t surprise me considering how poor they are). I still cannot sit, or go to work all because of their lack of care. This hospital is disgusting and I will never be returning here, let alone allowing them to operate on me. I will be complaining higher up and having some actions taken. I highly recommend not going here. I wound not wish anybody the depression, pain and ordeal i have been going through. Go to any other hospital. This is coming from a person who has been born here, who used to regulary go here until i had surgery here and found out the very poor service that occurs when they have surgical procedures.
