"Surgical Termination"

About: Marie Stopes International Manchester Centre

There are only a few negatives which I think should be noticed by both the clinic and any women thinking of visiting, which is why I am writing a review as I never do this type of thing. I got there early morning about 9am and was greeted by the most lovely woman. She was so understanding, calm and really made me feel comfortable. Although after going through a few things I was told I was to go upstairs by myself for a one to one consultation and my boyfriend had to sit downstairs in the waiting room, this was first news to me as I was told on my over the phone consultation he could accompany me at any point if that's what I wanted. Anyway I carried on had my consultation and my scan and was sent downstairs to the waiting room to sit with my boyfriend, I was then shortly after taken downstairs by a different lady, she took me into a room went through the risks and complications and then told me what would be happening throughout the day, it was here I found out I would now not see my boyfriend until it was all over (it was over around 6 hours later). I made it clear that I was told he could be with me through the whole process but understood also why he couldn't be for the respect and privacy of the other women, but I should not have been told this false information. I was taken to a room to take my lower body clothing off and wrap a sheet round to me to get ready and the surgeon would insert pills into the neck of the womb to loosen it, this was a very uncomfortable process as the surgeon and another doctor were very abrupt, quick and almost rough with me, the doctor inserting my cannula and the surgeon inserting the tablets. The doctor more rough than the surgeon. After waiting 4 hours in the waiting room with the other girls and the amazing nurse, I was taken in for surgery, two particular members of staff were real life Angels, they held my hand the whole time, stroked my head, made me feel so calm, the doctor who had inserted my cannula was now putting in the anaesthetic to my cannula which was what put me to sleep, from what I remember he put three syringes in, all he was so rough doing and I can easily say that was one of the most painful parts of the whole procedure and the only part that made me squirm. A week later my hand is still in so much pain every time I move it and is still badly bruised, I have had plenty of cannula so in my life and none have ever left me this way and no doctor has ever been so rough. So rough to the point when I told my boyfriend I actually thought back in fear and cried. I was also sent home with no aftercare documents, and no instructions on what I could and could not do and had to phone when I got home. After such a long hard day I shouldn't of had to do that, but the majority of the staff apart from those mentioned were amazing and real understanding people.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments, your feedback is of great value to us. I am extremely sorry that our clinic staff failed to meet with expectations as this is disappointing to all. I would like to assure you that your issues will be taken up with the clinic Manager. In contrast, we thank you for your lovely feedback which will also be fed back to the center managers who no doubt will be very appreciative to know they are providing the high standards we strive for. Apologies that this is so late, however we lost access to the alert system which is now restored.
