"Long wait for appointment not acceptable"

About: Bath Lodge Practice

I phoned for an appointment yesterday and have been given one on 10th January 2019 almost 4 weeks away this in itself is unbelievable and very poor service.

At 69 I look after myself and am in good nick for my age not needing a doctors opinion very often but when one is required I should not be asked to wait a month.

Being retired I offered to take any cancellations or wait until one of your many patients do not turn up ie on standby.

The surgery has a list of appointments missed and the hours wasted each week ,well that's hardly a surprise when appointments are so far away.

The practice is in serious decline and is not performing at all well .

I can use the internet quite well and often self diagnose myself for what I consider basic ailments but find it very difficult to see my own back in detail in a mirror.

Please do not mention Christmas as an excuse its miles away and comes every year so you must plan for that I hope.

To minimise missed appointments send a text the day before this is common practice these days even hairdressers use this simple option.

Dear Patient, I am so sorry that you have had cause to complain, I am concerned that you didn't contact me, as the Practice Manager in the first instance, so I could see if I could resolve the problem.

I believe, nationally the wait time to see a GP is approximately 3 weeks, but we have got Christmas and the New Year holidays to take into account, but there are many options we could have tried. You mention you can use the internet, have your tried our on-line service, you can book appointments, request medication repeats and also view your medical records, within this service, if you are interested in this service, please call into the Surgery, with some ID and I can set you up with this service. If you had said that the problem was urgent, then we could have made an appointment with our ANP (Advanced Nurse Practitioner), appointments are available on a daily basis, if this service was unable to resolve your problem then a duty GP would have been called into the consultation. We also use Southampton HUB, who have appointments available everyday and out of normal working hours up to 8pm.

I would be grateful if you could contact me, so we can resolve this problem, but would like to thank you for making me aware of your issues.

Best wishes

Jill Webb

Practice Manager
