I attended the GAU at LRI following a referral from my GP who had conducted and internal examination prior to my referral for severe stomach and pelvic pains.
My GP advised LRI GAU on the phone (whilst I was sat there) what tests had been done and that there was no need for a urine test for pregnancy and recommended a scan and blood test due to her concerns.
I arrived at LRI GAU, handed over the letter from the GP and the first thing they asked was to give a urine test. At this point I was concerned that they had not read the letter or taken any notice of the telephone call.
I was then asked to give a blood glucose test.I have no idea why this was needed.
Nothing was explained to me, nor did they give any feedback on my urine test which again i presumed was pointless.
I was then seen by a male GAU nurse, I was not asked whether or not this was suitable, or if i was happy with this. The male nurse also brought in a student nurse. I was in a lot of pain and i did not think that this was the time for student observation whilst in discomfort.
The GAU nurse conducted an internal examination (despite already having one) and suggested I take pain killers, ibuprofen for the pain.
I was then sent on my way and told to come back a week later for a scan.
I was given no appointment letter or anything.
I returned to the desk and said, do I need an appointment letter. The GAU nurse just grabbed a piece of card and scribbled a date at the top.
I found his attitude disappointing and very unprofessional.
I left the hospital and called GAU the next day to confirm the appointment.
They told me that there is nothing on the file under my name and i should try Radiology.
After ringing Radiology they stated they had nothing on record of any appointments and I should call GAU. I called GAU again the next day and they repeated that I had no appointment and there was nothing on file.
I am absolutely disgusted with the way I have been treated at LRI GAU.
"Dissappointed"
