"Sit and wait? More like a flying visit"

About: Oak Street Medical Pract.

After feeling awful due to persistent cough for a week, I phoned the surgery at 8.45am on Tuesday the 27th November and spoke to the Patient Care Advisor, who recognised me and she said straight away that I sounded like I needed to see a GP rather than a phone consultation.

I said I agreed and she said I could join the Sit and Wait brigade and that i needed to be at the practice between 9.30 and 10am. I said," ok".

With the time then 8.50am, I got a taxi immediately and checked myself in at 9.15 am.

I took a seat in the waiting room and what a pleasant experience to be sitting and looking at brilliant pieces of artwork hanging on the walls instead of depressing health posters.

At 9.30am I was called through by one particular doctor, who had a smile and a warm welcome to offer and after a short examination diagnosed a chest infection, and as we discussed the illness, she was electronically sending my prescription through to my designated pharmacy.

I said my goodbye and left the practice at 9.45am and got a taxi immediately to my pharmacy, arrived there at 10am, got my prescription and was back home by 10.30am.

Can anyone not say that Oak Street Medical Practice is the best place to be a patient of after first class service like that?

From start to finish i believe that Oak Street Medical Practice still lives up to the standards it set itself up to in justifying it's rating of Outstanding at its last and most recent CQC inspection.

It is not a hardship to have to tell the receptionist what's wrong with yourself, as they are the first link in a chain of events to ensure that you receive the best possible care during your visit there.

So I offer my sincere thanks to the Patient Care Advisor, who has unfortunately moved to work at another surgery, and to the doctor for the treatment I received that day.
