"parking at hairmyres"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres

(as the patient),

over the past few weeks i have been attending Hairmyres to visit a relative and to attend clinics myself as a patient and the parking it the worst part about every visit.

not once have i been able to get a space on first trip round all the car parks.

cars clearly parked illegally.

cars abandoned in the most awkward places.

i brought this up at the outpatients clinic and was told that the hospital are doing what they can but the problem is commuters using the train station.

i have read posts on here about the struggle with the car park and the efforts being put in. firstly i would like to praise you for attempting to fix the issue but I think its now time for more aggressive measures. commuters should be stopped by any and all means.

there should be parking checks staff should be allowed priority in a separate car park

reason for your visit to the hospital should be able to be proven- appointment letter, visitor information.

I was extremely sorry to learn of the concerns you have raised in relation to the difficulties you have experienced regarding car parking and please accept my apologies for the inconvenience you have been caused. I have detailed the current situation below and what we have been doing to try and alleviate the problem, but we accept that we still face challenges with regards to car parking issues.

The free car parking at University Hairmyres Hospital is for the benefit of patients, visitors and healthcare staff. We recognise that at peak times, the car parks can be full, or almost full with the only available spaces being at the points furthest from the entrances to the hospital. The management of the car parks is carried out on behalf of NHS Lanarkshire by our healthcare partners ISS. To encourage proper use of spaces, checks are routinely undertaken by our security/car park staff. Adhesive warning notices are attached to any inappropriately parked cars. The security staff also speak to drivers who park inappropriately.

Signage is located in all of the car parks advising drivers of the parking rules. Some areas of road markings have also recently been renewed clearly identifying parking bays. Security staff regularly monitor the use of the car parks to identify vehicles that are parked inappropriately or in a manner which causes obstruction to ambulances or the fire department, which is a health and safety issue.

We recognise the ever increasing demand for car parking spaces and we are actively pursuing methods to effectively control parking.I’m sorry I’m not able to offer any guarantees that the parking situation will be improved in the short term. Please be assured that this is a pressing issue that we are doing our best to address but we are limited with regards to the “enforcement” action we can take as the hospital roads and car parks are not part of the public highway therefore we are currently unable to fine or clamp vehicles. We are currently developing a car parking management strategy across NHSL and the timeline for this to be in place is by 2019.

Thank you for your reply

I Know that on the whole you all do your best and try but given the circumstances you are limited in what you can do. here's hoping that your plans for 2019 will have a greater impact on the car parks and make things easier not only for patients and relatives but yourselves as well

I am sure that your staff must get abuse off commuters as I have by challenging them on there parking
