"Day Case Gynae ward 308"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Gynaecology Services Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Theatres

(as the patient),

Having suffered for many many years with my menstrual cycle decided to eventually get some medical help. Referral to gynae was pretty quick and the scan at out patients xray completed within weeks. A hysteroscopy was tried in March of this year but too painful and was told it would need to be done under anaesthetic. Pre-assessment appointment was in April and did have a wee bit of wait till date of procedure (but I understand this would of been down to seriousness of each individual as how appointments are allocated).

I was in for a procedure under general anaesthetic on the this November.

From the moment I arrived (8am) till the moment I left (9pm) the staff were all lovely and kept me well informed of what was happening. Theatre staff were also really friendly and attentive.

I was told by the registrar to phone the secretary in 2 weeks for results of samples taken and this was the only time I felt that there was annoyance at staff being asked a question.

On the whole my experience was handled professionally and compassionately and as a member of the NHS myself feel that our staff do an amazing job and sometimes do not receive the acknowledgement they truly deserve.

Dear cs2508

Thank you for taking the time to acknowledge the care you received while in ward 308 as being professional and compassionate. I am also pleased to hear your waiting times from referral to be seen at out patient depart and subsequent investigations and appointments were not too long.

I have shared your feed back with the senior charge nurse in ward 308 and she is delighted that you found he staff to be lovely and they kept you well informed. She has fed this back to the staff on duty and this will discuss this post at the next staff meeting. Even though we are members of staff and have a wide knowledge, information relating to your particular care is so important.

The theatre manager is pleased to hear you found her staff to be friendly and attentive.

I m disappointed to hear the attitude of the secretary to be one off annoyance when you telephoned for your results. I will make the line manager for the team aware.

I hope you are recovering well following your procedure and that your symptoms have improved.

Kind regards

Margaret
