"My time"

About: Elmleigh

I was a lost man when i was invited to stay at Elmleigh, the decision to enter the place informally was one i vaguely remember but know had i not it would have been a different outcome, i am happy that i did.

The staff are fantastic, any challenges I had during my time in there was treated with respect and dignity. I was never spoken down to or told to get over it, and in fact they gave me the confidence i needed to start fighting back. I never believed in mindfulness and the way to bring yourself in to the now.. its been a journey learning how to use hte skills taught in the group sessions but they work and now I use these skills not just at my low points but also when im level.

The facilities are a little worn but adequate for the needs. the only real negative i can say is for a mental health unit to have no source of excercise area/gym style room when it is evidenced on your journey that excercise is an excellent support element is a shame - i would be happy to donate my weights.

Cleanliness was fantastic, i never saw a day without cleaners wiping floors, walls, facilities.

From what I saw for a very under funded unit ( across the whole country), Elmleigh and its staff work tirelessly to support those who need it most during their crisis.

a mention to the AMHT too, I dont allow people into my life easily, these guys worked with me over 6 months (2 spells) and can honestly say they stopped me many times trying to end my life just by listening and offering guidance.

I understand my MH challenges will take time and I have no doubt it will be a rollercoaster, but thanks to these guys from AMHT to the wards, they saved my life and i can fight on another day.

I would recommend this unit to any of my friends or family that need MH support if offered to step in through the doors at Elmleigh and use this time to really work on yourself, its worth it.. I now believe the saying "It's okay to be okay"
