"no compassion or care"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

Extremely disappointed with the care given in ward 6 at what was an extremely difficult time for me.

Staff showed no compassion or care and often sighed or huffed when I buzzed as they had instructed me to do so to get rid of sick bowls. The staff would walk in the room and say nothing to me just remove the bowl and leave. The nurse had told me to let them know if I needed pain relief and I had asked an Auxillary to let them know, it was 4 hours before I got pain relief and staff had never come back to tell me I couldn’t get anymore or if the nurse was busy etc.

During my stay I became upset and the nurse in the room just said that’s a shame then left me alone in the room when a listening ear was all I needed. Due to not being able to eat I had asked the domestic if I could have more juice who assured me I would get it but never returned.

When advised I could go home I was left waiting for an hour. when my partner went to see what the hold up was the nurses were all sitting at the desk, one on the phone very rudely replied they will just need to wait not explaining what I was waiting on, 45 minutes later they came in to let me go home. The staff I came into contact with were rude and showed no compassion or care for me. I am a fellow nurse and was ashamed of my profession after that visit!

Dear Disappointed45678

I am so sorry to hear of your experience and apologise for the distress this has caused you and your partner. We expect all our patients to be treated with compassion and to receive a high standard of care and it is disappointing when this has not been the case.

I wonder if I could ask you to get in touch with the Department Manager, Helena Marshall on 01324 567663, to discuss with her the concerns you have raised in your story, its is important that we learn from our patients and their families/carers experiences and look at what we could do differently to ensure this does not happen again.

I hope that your are recovering well.

Kindest regard
