On 13 November 2018 I was taken to Queens Hospital Romford following an anxiety attack..I found the whole experience enlightening.
I was well treated in A&E, staff were friendly, helpful and kept me well informed. They were professional although very busy with real emergencies
Subsequently I was transferred to the Medical Receiving Unit for an infusion and further observations. the accommodation was good and very clean, food was appetising and the staff were also very friendly and kept me well informed.
Owing to certain issues I was then moved to the Coronary Care Unit where I received excellent treatment. The ward was very clean and food was good. When one considers that the kitchens are feeding a lot of patients in a variety of locations it was a logistical wonder. The menus were available at the bedside and one could choose from a wide variety of meals .
I was particularly impressed by two of the staff nurses both of whom were exceptionally professional. The night duty SN was one of a limited number of staff who were very busy with elderly and difficult patients. The day SN was very professional in training a student nurse with her first insertion of a canular. This SN was fastidious about cleansing and stock levels.
Part of my treatment required a day transfer to St Barts. for an angiogram. This eased a lot of my health concerns.
It is easy to complain about delays and other problems in the NHS, but I believe that there is a balance and my experience throughout the 4 1/2 days of my stay showed me the very positive side of our NHS its quality staff and Queens Hospital's current management.
