I have just come home, two days after a mastectomy for breast cancer. I am 87 years old, and the care provided to me has been excellent throughout, from my visits to outpatients, to the operation, and my care on surgical ward 4.
At my pre-operative check, I was found to have an irregular heartbeat, and the nurse looking after me was very good, arranging further heart tests, contacting my GP and my son. Everyone has been so kind, and cheerful in looking after me, including the surgeons, anaesthetists,
nurses, theatre staff, junior doctors, health care assistants and catering staff and cleaners. Not forgetting my breast care nurse, and the early discharge nursing team. And I have been started on an anti-coagulant for my irregular heartbeat.
"Excellent care for breast cancer"
