"Left feeling disappointed and unsupported"

About: Berkeley Place Surgery

Having been a member of the practice for a number of years now, I am consistently left disappointed and upset at the treatment and care received. I visited the surgery a number of times over a three year period for an ongoing health issue, however, was brushed off on many occasions and told there was nothing wrong. When my husband and I were finally referred to a specialist, it was discovered that I had a stage 3 fertility problem that had been ignored. The receptions are insensitive and I was left in tears following a miscarriage when the receptionist did not listen and told me a doctor would ring me back. When I didn’t receive a phone call, I had to ring back and repeat the devastating information for a second time. After an agonising wait, I was finally contacted and the doctor was incredibly apologetic. However, due to being so late in the day, I could not be admitted to hospital for support or treatment until the following day. Now I am a mother, the care has been unhelpful and patronising. As a first time parent, I have been made to feel that I should just accept my concerns as they are the ‘norm’ with little interest taken in the issues I have been experiencing. There has been little consistency between doctors and it doesn’t seem the medical notes or history are looked at before my repeat visits; this has led to me repeating information which is then not listened to. I feel very upset and frustrated and have been left with further anxiety at a very difficult time.

Thank you so much for taking the time to flag up these problems. I am absolutely mortified that you have been left feeling this way. This is not the level of service that we aim to provide, and I'm so very sorry this has happened to you. Clearly there are lessons to be learned from your case and the way your care has been managed by lots of different parts of the surgery. Your review was published anonymously so it makes it hard for us to be clear where the problems lie. I would be extremely grateful if you could get in touch with me at the practice to talk this through so we can identify where things have gone wrong, and try to improve care in the future.

Best Wishes

Dr Ropner
