"Shocking way to treat people with Mental Health"

I did CBT about 6 years ago and found it very helpful, I can feel myself slipping into old behaviours, anxiety, and low mood, I gathered up the courage to call Talk Wandsworth, the only support they offered me was group sessions or skype….

Both filled me with dread and added anxiety.

In the spirit of goodwill I tried one of the group sessions and yes it was as bad as I thought it would be and put me in a very vulnerable situation, I explained this in a telephone conversation the next day and was basically told that I would have to be much iller before I could get 1-2-1.

I feel completely abandoned, ‘it’s my way or the highway’ attitude for people with mental health is shocking, and speaking for myself, I need that personal interaction.

I wish I had never contacted them because I feel worse now than when I first rang, and I’m still left without support.

The team have asked that I post to following response on their behalf.

“The Operational and Clinical Manager have reviewed this case and apologise for the bad experience. High demand for the service means that we are only usually able to offer groups and SilverCloud (supported computerised CBT) where people’s symptoms are below the clinical threshold for a diagnosis of depression or an anxiety disorder. For most people in this category, this level of support is well received and supports them to manage the symptoms that have begun to emerge. However, we recognise that where symptoms are experienced by someone as a re-emergence of a recurrent problem, this may not feel adequate, and not accessing the support they feel they need can feel very anxiety provoking. We are sorry that in this case this has been their experience. If you would like to contact us directly on 0203 513 6264 to speak to a member of the senior management team, we would be happy to review what happened in this particular instance.”

Kind regards

Farai
