"Treatment for a broken ankle"

About: Borders General Hospital / Accident & Emergency Borders General Hospital / Gynaecology Borders General Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics (Ward 9)

(as a service user),

This October I was out walking my Labrador. Being a rather boisterous puppy he came charging at me and cannoned into my left leg breaking my ankle in two places.  My husband immediately took me to Borders General Hospital A & E Department.  There I was dealt with quickly, efficiently and sympathetically.  As my ankle was broken I was admitted to Ward 9 and operated on the following day. On the day before discharge I was transferred to Ward 16.

I can’t speak highly enough of the treatment and care I received from the staff in A & E, my Consultant, the Ward Sisters (is that what they are called these days?), the nursing staff, radiographers, porters , catering staff and anyone I might have missed.

They were all highly efficient, personable and helpful.  I simply couldn’t fault them or the treatment I received.

I would like to pass on my thanks and gratitude to each and everyone of them.

Thank you for sharing your story with us and I hope that you are now recovering well at home after your recent stay at BGH. I will certainly pass on your feedback to the various teams involved in your care. All our staff work extremely hard to ensure they deliver safe, effective and high quality care, with the patient at the centre of all that we do.

I hope that it won't be long before you are able to fully enjoy your walks again with the labrador puppy!

Kind regards,

Caroline Burgess
