We went through a difficult labour form the birth of our first born. We were admitted into hospital to be induced due to concerns regarding reduced fetal movements. After a wait on the antenatal ward of slightly under 40 hours, we were taken to the labour ward where my wife gave birth after a difficult 12 hours in labour.
We were then taken up to the post natal ward to rest, recuperate and recover. The care provided on the post natal ward was excellent. The staff were kind, compassionate and caring from the lady who cleaned the room, to the numerous midwives who cared for us during our 3 days on the ward.
The midwives were only a buzz away and provided the 24/7 care required, both in terms of pain relief for my wife and help in looking after our new born in the days immediately after his birth.
The breast feeding team were on hand during the day to help with feeds and give guidance as to positioning, latching and techniques, in addition to providing support to carry on breast feeding at a “low point”. When the breast feeding team were not around, the midwives stepped up and provided the help and assistance “after hours”.
We did not have a pleasant experience of the antenatal process and the labour itself had various issues meaning we had to stay in hospital afterwards, but our time on the post natal ward was made as pleasant as possible under the circumstances by a committed and caring team. We will be forever grateful for their help and care.
