Made my first visit yesterday after being referred from my local hospital who did not specialise in the treatment I need following a severe facial injury, damaged teeth and broken jaw My initial impression was that it was friendly but it soon appeared to be similar to a college break out room in the waiting area. Students were strolling around, talking openly about patients well within ear shot of the waiting area, mocking some of them, making jokes of others which I found appalling, I challenged with the receptionist and her reply was "well they are student's." In my days as a student nurse, strict patient confidentiality was the first thing we had instilled into us so for student dentists I found this disgusting. My appointment was an hour late because they hadn't inputted it correctly into their system so I was the last patient to be seen. I was taken into a room which was open plan, with just head height dividers between each consultation area where I was expected to divulge incredibly personal medical information well within the earshot of other patients which related to my epilepsy (the reason for my injury) I asked the young dentist if I could be moved somewhere more private. She looked at me completely expressionless as if I had asked for the world. The dental nurse kindly obliged though and I was taken to a 'spare office'. The young dentist was rude, did not introduce herself, showed no compassion or understanding when I became upset reliving the trauma and she glared at me, as if I was taking too much of her time up. I tried to be friendly but she was just not interested which made me feel extremely anxious and uncomfortable. I was sent for an x-ray, a student dentist was to do this. I have no concerns whatsoever of students carrying out any procedures as part of their training however I was not asked for my consent and had to stop the young lady first to ask her to wash her hands before she attempted to place anything in my mouth. She took no details from me, no confirmation of ID until she was prompted by her mentor who was very knowledgeable I was sent back into a waiting area and then called back to see the original dentist. Again, walked into her office and she glared at me completely expressionless as if I was some type of hindrance to her finishing that day She said the consultant would come in to discuss. He did, but was very blunt, which I don't mind but again, no compassion or understanding towards me. I was thinking production line for patients. He said he could not make a call on what treatment and he would have to refer back to my original surgeon at my local hospital who was not a dentist according to him anyway, but a maxillofacial surgeon. The consultant I saw was supposedly an expert in restorative dentistry so why he has to go back for more information after an 8 month wait for my appointment is beyond me. Why had this not been done prior? I could go on but you g
