"Fracture Clinic visit"

About: Warwick Hospital

I attended A&E after a fall. Had my ankle plastered. Was Told that my virtual fracture clinic appointment would be the following morning and to expect a call in the afternoon. No call the following day. Then the Following afternoon From that, get the call and ask me to attend the next morning at 9:10am. I said I may be late as have to get children to school. I arrived at 9:12. At 9:35 we were told the consultant was delayed and running about an hour behind. I was eventually called in by a nurse? I question this because I wasn’t actually told who she was. She told another(I assumed nurse) to remove cast and place me in a fracture boot. I asked what I had actually done to my ankle. I was abruptly told “broken it” so I asked what it was that was broken and how bad it was. To be told “I don’t know... do you need to know then?”

I explained I would like to know and was told I’d have to call the consultant. I was fitted into a boot and sent on my way with three extra pads for the boot for me “figure out what’s comfortable at home” and not told where they go or how. . I was given no information on caring for my injury. I asked if I could weight bare. One said yes one said no. No one seemed to know what was going on and now I don’t know what I’m supposed to do to ensure my ankle heals correctly and to use my fracture boot correctly. I can’t ring the consultant as I had no letter with any contact details. I have no idea who my consultant is so no idea how to contact them!! I felt very rushed and like they were just trying to get people in and out as quickly as possible as they were behind and the waiting room was filling up.
