"Shockingly poor treatment"

About: Avenue Medical Practice

I went for a series of blood tests last month. I react quite badly to blood tests and tend to faint. I explained this to the nurse so I could lie down. Half way through I was dizzy, nauseous and a bit delirious. When she finished I asked if I could wait 5 minutes as I wasn't fit to stand. However, my request was ignored and I was told to wait in the waiting room instead. I didn't know what to do so I tried making my way out the room. I was clearly on the brink of falling and she offered me NO assistance what so ever. Just after I got outside the room I immediately fainted. Once I came round, I tried to make my way to the waiting room to my friend who noticed me and came rushing to me just before I fainted AGAIN.

After that time fainting, my doctor came to help. She lay me down in a room with a free bed (directly next to the nurses office where I had just had my blood taken! )I explained what had happened to the doctor and she went to have a quick word with the nurse. She soon came back to inform me that the nurse had told her I wasn't within their area anymore and had to leave/change the surgery.

I never did receive an apology and have been asked once more to leave the surgery with a tone that was rude and unprofessional.

I've never been so shockingly treated. I've had to go through that horrible experience immediately before being told I can no longer be a member of their practice after 7 years. I'm now even more terrified of blood tests than I already was and now have to find another surgery. Absolutely

appalling.

Thank you for writing your comments on NHS choices.

We aim to offer a high standard of care to all patients and we are sorry you felt let down.

I was concerned about the description of your experience at Avenue Medical Practice and investigated further.

I spoke to both clinicians concerned.

The account of our staff members differs from your recollection in some respects.

Accordingly the practice is happy for any patient to come in and discuss any concerns with regard to patient care.

We welcome patients contacting us through the NHS complaints procedure.

This gives the practice the opportunity to make amends to the patient.

Our service is then able to learn and improve on our systems of care and give patients the confidence that they are listened to and their concerns are acted upon.

I understand that when you have been registered at a GP practice for a length of time you may not wish to re-register somewhere else.

I regret to say we are unable to retain patients who move out of the defined practice area.
