"hospital under used"

About: Rowley Regis Hospital

Family member recently an in patient for rehabilitation at the hospital and care was excellent. However, when she needed a canulla inserted for some fluids, she was transferred to Sandwell hospital and again when her blood pressure was low. This causes upset for the patient, her daughter was alarmed to be told in the middle of the nights that she had been transferred, fearing the worse. This also involved an ambulance and put pressure on Sandwell to find a bed etc I think this is a smashing little hospital and would be extremely upset to lose it but think about investing in someone, i e a couple of doctors could be very beneficial and the hospital could then be used to house so many more patients for many different reasons and save this going back and forth to Sandwell. If the Government keep their promise to put more money into the NHS please direct some to Rowley and utilise this great little hospital.

Thank you for your kind supportive words regarding Rowley Regis Hospital. Whilst we continue to be very proud of the hard work and level of care provided by staff at the hospital it is a smaller facility than its ‘big sisters’ at Sandwell and City and so on occasion it is necessary to transfer patients to where the needed resources are for their benefit. Likewise transfers do go to Rowley Regis when required. Rest assured, Rowley Regis Hospital continues to be a major part of the Trust and its healthcare activities across the region and we’ll continue to evaluate how best it and our other facilities can provide services to patients.

I am concerned that the relative was alarmed by this move and may not have been informed properly about the situation, so there may be lessons to learn here. If they are able to please contact Communications Team at swbh.comms@nhs.net with further details so that they can pass it on to the team at Rowley. Kind regards, Toby Lewis, Chief Executive.
