About: Royal Lancaster Infirmary / Accident and emergency

I had to wait to go through a&e but who cares. I was in excellent hands of overstretched underpaid staff using ecg and blood pressure machines that caused the staff to spend 55 minutes more with me than they should have. I was seen and treat for free in a department that sees over 70,000 people a year in facilities which not too many years ago 'only' treat 35,000 patients a year. Everyone from the domestics to the consultants treat me with respect and kindness and professional expertise. Not to mention the very kind Lingwood security guard who really had his hands full that night. Dispite listening to patients screaming in the background their professionalism and dedication of the staff was unequalled. Everything was explained in detail and I was told how long before I had a test or they would receive a result. I wasn't well and found it difficult to convey how I felt and my history but they did better than just cope. I am always at a loss to understand why people go to and then complain about the service and I am more surprised that the staff can remain cheerful and professional when they are under such pressure. Hats off to them all. I seriously will always try to give a & e a swerve but I know if I every need to attend the department again I will be in very very safe hands
