"Maternity Unit"

About: West Middlesex University Hospital / Maternity

I was given routine growth scans through my pregnancy and was given one at 40 weeks. The sonographer noticed the growth of my baby had slowed and sent me to triage. At triage was seen within 15 minutes. A doctor also came who decided to induce me with my permission. The dr explained the procedures and comforted me at a scary time. Within another 30 minutes I was on the ward to be induced. The midwife who would look after me that night came and introduced herself at the start, she was amazing and helped me through an emotional time for me! I had the same midwife every night for 3 nights and she always had me. Having a familiar face was just what I needed while my induction wasn’t working! The midwife took the time to get to know me and I was kept up to date with everything going on and what stages I was at! Also having the same regular midwife (shift permitting) it was more comfortable at a time which you do not really have any dignity! When the midwife had to move to the labour ward she would come and tell me I would be looked after by a different midwife and it’s the small things that you appreciate at a vulnerable time! On the 4th day I was moved to the labor ward which was very clean and spacious. I had my midwife till her shift ended and after I had another. The other midwife again was fantastic and i wish I could thank her for the support she gave me when my waters where broke and I was in labor. I had my mother and fiancé in the room and the midwife also helped me and coached me through the first stages of labor. She held my hand and made me feel like a friend which you need at that time. I felt she really cared and made an effort to put me at ease. I had an epidural which failed and immediately the midwife got the help to have it redone. Unfortunately the midwife left shift before I had my baby which ended up in an emergency cesarean. The same dr that broke my water performed my cesarean, the familiarity of the dr kept me calm and I felt in safe hands. I could not thank the team at West Mid maternity unit enough, especially my teo midwives who I spent a lot of time with! They deserve to be recognized and I could not recommend this maternity unit enough!! If i have anymore babies I will be straight back. The care I received was personal and amazing. Thank you for bringing my baby into the world safe and sound.
